WASHINGTON (April 13, 2022)—World Resource Institute (WRI)’s Global Forest Watch team will soon publish its annual analysis of how much forest was lost in 2021. Join WRI’s embargoed press call on Tuesday, April 19 at 9:00AM ET / 15:00 CEST / 8:00PM WIB, where global experts will provide a preview of the 2021 tree cover loss data.

During the press call, experts will discuss global trends in forest loss – how did forests fare during a year of commitments? What were the trends in forest loss, what are the factors that continue to drive this loss, and are there countries successfully reducing deforestation?  And, what’s needed to meet the ambitious pledge made by over 100 countries at COP26 to halt and reverse deforestation and land degradation by 2030?

The satellite-based data from University of Maryland, and corresponding analysis and insights from WRI, are strictly embargoed for Thursday, April 28 at 4:01 AM EDT / 10:01 AM CEST / 3:01 PM WIB. To receive a Dropbox folder of embargoed data and graphics, email Kaitlyn Thayer and Alison Cinnamond.

The tree cover loss data, in-depth analysis, and expert insights on the state of the world’s forests will be released on the Global Forest Review on April 19.
