Janneke de Vries is the Head of the World Resources Institute Europe regional office in The Hague. She is also the director for EU Partnerships. She started WRI’s activities in Europe with a small team in 2016. She expanded WRI's network of partners and funders in Europe, initiated partnerships with new prospective European partners and built the WRI team. Now she focuses on deepening WRI's relationship with the European Union to increase visibility and global impact.

Janneke previously worked as the Head of Unit Global Affairs within the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment in The Hague. Before that she was the Counselor for Infrastructure and the Environment for the United States and Canada at the Netherlands Embassy in Washington DC. She also led, as head of the Netherlands delegation, various teams to negotiate multilateral environmental treaties.

Janneke holds a Master of Law in public international law and international commercial law from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She had an executive education in international management and public leadership at the Harvard Kennedy Business School.

She taught water management and city planning at the Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC.

Janneke lives near The Hague in the Netherlands with her partner Herbert and her kids Silke and Cas. Her passion is sailing, at inland waters in Fryslan but also at sea.
