Tirthankar Mandal is the Head of Energy Policy in the Energy Program at World Resources Institute, India. Here, he leads the energy policy work and informs the national policymaking process with evidence from projects that the energy program carries out in the spheres of energy for development, clean energy, energy transition for India and urban energy space.

Tirthankar comes to World Resources Institute, India, with extensive experience in clean energy, climate change, and development policy analysis. Before this, he worked as a policy expert in organizations like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF India). His blogs and articles on clean energy and rooftop solar in India are widely published in popular online and print mediums.

An economist by training, Tirthankar holds an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Originally from Kolkata, he is currently based out of Delhi. In his spare time, Tirthankar loves to read Bengali stories and visit less popular Himalayan spots and be with nature.
